#PennApps 2014 @leapmotiondev was there

@Kiwi and @Cabibbo made the cross-country flight from Silicon Valley to check out the future tech stars from East Coast colleges (and even high schools) at the 8th PennApps hackathon.

  1. PennApps got off to a wintery start with many of the incoming flights getting cancelled due to pending snow storms. That didn't stop over 600 students from turning up to the University of Pennsylvania to hack away through the weekend.

PennApps 2014 is the 8th PennApps hackathon, having started from humble beginnings when Alexey Komissorouk founded the first event.
  2. Finally got to see snow.
  3. If you're going to invite thousands of hackers to travel for hours through snowstorms you'd better make sure the Winner's Cup is well worth it.... PennApps clearly nailed it.
  4. The Museum of Anthropology and Archeology made for a unique venue.
  5. Sadly, for some, the journey was just too tough.
  6. #HackerFatigue #PennApps #Hackathon #NoTimeForSleep
  7. Luckily, our Sponsor Alley neighbors, Capital One Labs, came to the rescue when they turned up with a coffee machine. Unfortunately, someone forgot the donuts! After a short trip through the falling snow to the nearest donut shop, we had an impromptu hacker rehab center set up.
  8. After 48 hours of hacking, it was time to check out the Leap Motion hacks.
  9. First up was Conductor, with an awesome musical hack that allowed you to control different sections of an orchestra using your hands, as well as conducting the song and adjusting the music temp by changing the speed of the conducting.
  10. The Bop-It team made us remember bygone days by bringing back the popular '90s toy. Players could "Twist it," "Pull it," or "Bop it" in an attempt to break the high score. What's more, up to 4 players could play together over the Internet. Check out the video in the link below.
  11. Gestice brought multiple hardware devices together to bring the world of gesture control to any Android phone when coupled with a Pebble device. Apparently 48 hours was just too long for the team, so in their remaining time they decided to create an entire Leap Motion-enabled website to showcase the project.
  12. There were many other great Leap Motion hacks, and more of them can be seen in our PennApps blog recap on the Leap Motion Developer Labs Blog. For a full list of projects, check out the Leap Motion Sponsor Prize section of the PennApps 2014 Submissions page
