3D Molecules in the Palm of Your Hand!

Molecules is a molecular visualizer. It is a file viewer that allows you to display three-dimensional renderings of molecules and manipulate them using a Leap Motion Controller. Molecules can be displayed in a window or in fullscreen mode, and Retina displays are fully supported.

The Leap Motion Controller lets you move an open hand in three dimensions to rotate and scale the molecular structure faster than you could with the 2-D input of a mouse. Lateral translation of a structure is accomplished by moving two open hands in parallel.

The application currently supports molecular structures in the PDB, SDF, and XYZ file formats. These files can be downloaded from a number of sources, including the RCSB Protein Data Bank and NCBI's PubChem.

Molecules is free and its source code is available under the BSD license.

Lots of people have windows PC and they need windows version app to use it efficiently. Open source jmol is customized on various platform to use such molecules view in 3-D. But now when we have this technology, developer must..must..must release the windows version soon. I am a school teacher and my & my student strongly feel for need of windows version. This project deserves more than 5 stars if they would release windows version also.

The first release is quite impressive. For a small molecule display, it is really nice. Nevertheless, it would be great if we can have the options to display the molecules in ribbons as for secondary structure of a proteins. Moreover, as other reviewers have said, a Windows version is really welcome.
