BetterTouchTool

Configure Gestures To Do Anything On Your Mac

BetterTouchTool is a great, feature packed application that allows you to configure many gestures for your Leap Motion Controller, Apple's Magic Mouse, Macbook Trackpad and Magic Trackpad. It also allows you to configure actions for keyboard shortcuts, normal mice and the Apple Remote. In addition to this it has an iOS companion App (BTT Remote) which can also be configured to control your Mac the way you want.

BetterTouchTool includes many goodies, like window snapping or an integrated window switcher.

You can set up application specific gestures, but also global ones. You can disable BetterTouchTool for specific apps in case the gestures you set up would conflict with that app.

Leap Motion Controller Gestures

BetterTouchTool's Leap Motion Controller support is in it's early development stages and will continue to improve fast. Currently it supports 27 gestures that can be set to do and control almost anything on your Mac.

Leap Motion Controller Mouse Control

BetterTouchTool now allows you to move your mouse cursor, click and scroll with your Leap Motion Controller. In contrast to other mouse control approaches BetterTouchTool allows you to rest your arm on the table. You only have to point with your fingers to move your mouse or click. If you encounter issues using the mouse control, please contact me.

What's New

Version 0.970

BetterTouchTool's Leap Motion Controller support is still in beta and I'm working hard to improve it. Version 0.97 comes with those changes:

• Added a very basic mouse control mode that allows you to move your mouse, left-click, right-click and scroll. (It is disabled by default, see http://blog.boastr.net/documentation-faq/leap-motion-mouse-control/ for more information )

• Added three finger circle gestures

• Many bugfixes

• Leap Motion Controller gestures can now be printed

• Added basic Leap Motion Controller support in the Live View

• The application switcher action now works well with circle gestures (keep circling to select an application)

• Many internal changes that will allow me to add new gestures with upcoming updates soon.

• Added a new action "Disable Gesture Recognition For X Seconds", which you can attach to already configured gestures in order to suppress accidental gestures.

If you encounter any issues please contact me via the integrated feedback reporter, my blog (http://blog.boastr.net ) or via e-mail (boastr.net@gmail.com )

I'd agree that some motion meaningful screen feedback is needed, but other than that...? This is just awesome! If this is where you're starting from I can't wait to see what's coming. :-)

You never know when your fingers are detected by leap, no visual tips.

  • Great App for Controlling your Mac

This app is much better than Touchless in terms of accuracy because you have to set each action yourself; you choose from a list of gestures and set an action for that gesture. There is a robust set of predefined actions, and you can use shortcuts for the rest. There are application-specific settings to keep your gesture sets from trampling each other. Touchless is better for full control, but BTT is a better utility. It'll be interesting to see how this tool improves.

I'm currently looking for the best mouse pointer app and I have concluded that this one is the closest to how it should be so far. Only thing it is so hardly missing is more fluid movement for mouse pointer. Let's say if the pointer would move exactly like in Touchless app (perhaps even including the little circle around the pointer), but the rest of the controls e.g clicking and scrolling would kept the same - it would be the perfect choice!
